Pop Culture Websites

Pop Culture Sites

This isn't the only entertainment site I operate. It's just one of many "pop culture websites" I've designed and written. I define popular culture as anything including more or less current movies, tv, books, and celebrity sites. Since I wrote most of these pop culture sites myself, and you're here, then it's possible we have similar interests, and you might want to take a look at some of my other sites.

Cinema Threads - This is an active movie message board and discussion forum. A lot of the moderating there is done by my friend Shane; I don't post there as often as I should, although maybe I'll start, since I'm trying to spend more time working on my network of popular culture sites. At the time of this writing, Cinema Threads has over 1500 threads discussing a variety of subjects. I never got around to putting any advertising up there, so as of right now (and this might well change), Cinema Threads is one of the only ad-free movie forums online.

Film Cynic - This is a movie review site where the content was written by a friend of mine who really LOVES movies. He is singlehandedly on a quest to destroy the profitability of Netflix. Besides movie reviews, he's written articles about cheesy movie posters. The site also has a section for movie news and popular culture news, but that part of the site hasn't been updated in ages. Some of the movies that are reviewed there are obscure films, like Greek zombie movies, etc. It's a fun project, and I hope to start expanding that site again soon too.

Randy's Guides - This is a website I launched to kinda house some of my writings about various pop culture topics I'm interested in. It's one of those sites that I'll be working on for ages, because I've literally launched sections about all kinds of subjects that interest me, including the tv show Weeds, the Remo Williams Destroyer novels, and the Wild Cards books. I could have as easily added a section there about PT Anderson, but I liked the idea of having a standalone site devoted to PT Anderson, since he's quickly becoming one of my favorite directors. I also don't feel quite as much pressure to complete the pages about popular culture subjects at the Randy's Guides websites because it's a site I designed almost exclusively for fun. (Although I guess you could say the same about this site, but I like to think that this site has the potential to get really big. I also like to think I'll have the self-discipline and motivation to get this one into some kind of finished state. At any rate, the content on Randy's Guides isn't static, and I have plans to expand it and cover more pop culture subjects, including more tv shows I like (Prison Break, Arrested Development, Lost and Buffy the Vampire Slayer come to mind, video games I like (City of Heroes is one idea I had), and books and comic books. I've been collecting comic books for 30 years, so that will probably be the next piece of the site that I'll launch. I only play video games very occasionally now anyway.

I wrote about Weeds because I got into that show from the very start, and it seemed like a small enough undertaking that I might actually be able to finish it. (Episode summaries are easier to write for a show that only has 12 episodes per season and has only been on for 3 seasons.) On the other hand, the Remo Williams novels take me a few hours to finish reading, and there are over 150 of those to plow through. And I thought I'd finish reading the Wild Cards books, and I probably will, but I've definitely gone on to read some other stuff for a bit. I'll update all those sections when I can though./p>

Rob Zombie Movies - This is one of the earliest "pop culture" websites I ever wrote or designed. Depending on when you visit, it might or might not be a little bit out of date. I've gotten out of the habit of updating it very often, and I hated Rob Zombie's most recent movie, the remake of Halloween. But it's a pretty cool site with information about all the movies he's made so far. It also features pages about the cast he usually uses, so it has pages about Sid Haig and Bill Moseley, etc.

Shana Hiatt Site - This is a celeb-focused site about Shana Hiatt, who is arguably one of the most beautiful women involved in the newly popular poker subculture. Shana Hiatt used to be the official hostess for the World Poker Tour, but now she works at NBC hosting Poker After Dark. You might prefer some other poker woman, like Jennifer Tilly, Courtney Friel, Shannon Elizabeth, or Clonie Gowen, but if I had to choose a poker celebrity to date, it would almost assuredly be Shana Hiatt. (This site is actually owned by someone else, but I manage the site for him, so I've included it here.

Shaun of the Dead - I picked up this totally awesome domain about a year after all the fuss over the domain died down. It's a pretty extensive website, with detailed articles describing the plot of the movie, the characters featured in the movie, and the actors who played in the movie. I haven't updates this site in a good little bit either, but there's not really a lot of news or updates, since it's about a specific film that's already come and gone from both the movie theater and from the video stores. Great movie though, and a cool website, even if I do say so myself.
